Party in the Park
During the four days of Party in the Park, $5200 was raised through sales from the food trailer.
$100 was also donated for insurance for the fireworks.
Relay for Life
Members donated $1015 to the Benton Couty Relay for Life.
International Literacy Week
Twenty members read with students in four classrooms at Tilford Elementary School. 31 Lions ate lunch with students and toured the school.
The Lions Club also made a $100 donation to buy paperback books for students to take home with them.
District 9NE Convention
The Vinton Lions Club hosted the District 9NE Convention March 20th and 21st. A social and dinner were held at the Vinton Country Club Friday evening. Mr. Erik Upmeyer, a speech teacher from the VS High School presented two speech students, Jaime Thompson and Reiley Ries, who presented their speech programs. There was also a video presentation prepared by other speech students.
Saturday the event was held at the Iowa Braille School. The guest speaker was Karla Harris, an International Director from South Milwaukee.
Sports Booster Donation
Vinton Lions Club president Alan Woodhouse presented a check for $1,000 to the Vinton-Shellsburg Sports Boosters. The Boosters provide all high school athletic uniforms, equipment requested by coaches, scholarships, signs and more. The Lions raise contributions selling funnel cakes and snow cones at football games. The Lions have contributed over $17,000 to the Boosters in the last 15 years.
An additional $2500 was donated toward the renovations at the Karr Athletic Complex.
Chili Supper
The Vinton Lions Club hosted a chili supper at the Vinton Fire Station on November 21st to raise funds for the Honor Flight program. $2100 was donated to this program to assist veterans.
