Lions Club of Waverly History
The Waverly Lions Club, sponsored by the Cedar Falls Lions club, was officially chartered on June 13, 1944, with thirty three members. In 1987 women were invited to be Lions.
Lions Club International was formed in 1917. In 1925 Helen Keller attended their international convention asking the Club to help the blind. Since then the Lions have worked tirelessly to prevent blindness and to assist the blind.
Some of the projects the Lions support are: Kidsight - Youth vision screening. Leader Dog - Training of leader service dogs. Eye Glasses - Reusing glasses for the needy. Eye Bank - Human tissue donation, cornea transplants.
