LIONS CLUB KIDSIGHT TESTING
TAKING THE PICTURE
The Davenport Host Lions Club provides free vision screenings to pre-school aged children. This is through the KidSight program supported state wide through the Iowa Lions Clubs. Vision screenings enhance the early detection and treatment of vision problems in developing children which could otherwise affect that child through out adult life.
Amblyopia is the most common vision problem in pre-school children. When undetected or left untreated, Amblyopia can result in permanent vision loss that may affect a person through out life. As many as 9000 Iowa children under the age of four suffer poor vision. Conditions that can lead to Amblyopia are not always easy to recognize. Unfortunately, half of all children with Amblyopia are diagnosed after the age of five, when therapy may no longer be effective.
The following thank you letter was received from a parent that had their child tested in the KidSight screening program:
We just wanted to thank you so much for your wonderful screening program! Our five year old whom we always thought would inherit our poor eyesight, turned out fine for now. Our three year old has always been a little clumsy, but we chalked that up to being a distracted todler. He had a screening done about two months ago that revealed a potential problem. A follow up found indeed he was significantly far sighted in his left eye. Thankfully it was caught early and is easily treated before it became a "lazy eye". He is very cute in his glasses now and seems to be enjoying some improved depth perception. Thank you so much for all of your hard work."
